happy chap goh meh

presenting: my granny's kuih....fatt kou. ok that is all i know about the name. but granny made this for today's prayer signifying the last day of chinese new year aka chap goh meh.
this fatt kou tastes good since it is a successful attempt. there have been many failed attempts before this but glad to know this time it turns out well. the home-made version either by mom or grandma is still the best.

so chinese new year has come and gone. i guess it is time to take down those red decorations in the house now. and u still have a basket of mandarin oranges lying in the house? well fret now...it is the chinese's valentine's day right today? and according to tradition, those single young man and woman will write their wishes (now they write their contact numbers) on the oranges and throw them into the river. let the lucky one pick up their mate from the oranges floating in the river. hmmh....i have a basket of mandarin oranges left...and this year's oranges are not good...tasteless and sour, so maybe it is a good idea not to waste them and use them for my future.

i still have 2 ang pows coming my way today from parents. yeah...so nice of them.

and those lovers out there, love is in the air in all kinds of media!! and it sucks for singletons. valentine's dinner, valentine's gift, stories of valentine, lovey-dovey tales, etc will be infesting the media this week. i sound as bitter as the mandarin oranges huh? so no one is buying me valentine's gift...but who cares. the pendant in the star by tous is really beautiful. good idea to give jewelry as gift to a girl. do not buy flowers and chocolate!!! well, that is what i think. i might go and check out the tous counter when i have the time. been a while since i checked and i have always liked their sterling silver stuff. a gift for myself, celebrating my singlehood. how lame. but since it is all about saving due to the economic recession this year, might just end up staring at those jewelry and keeping them in mind.

ya i'm quite agree not to buy flowers and chocolate. but chocolate should be ok coz it's practical and meaningful sweet although i don't like it much. of course gals love jewelry.
