blend in to the night

happy belated labour's day. well, it is still the labour's day weekend, so still enjoying yourself?
i think kl must be a bit empty now isn't it?
came back from bidor yesterday at noon and gosh, was i glad to be on my side of the highway. the cars heading north were stuck in a bumper to bumper jam. i was cruising along smoothly with a smile on my face. hehee...so bad of me. i bet they are going to penang. it must be one hell of a crowded island.

went out for a drink with 2 friends yesterday and it was a really unlucky night.
first stop was blue cafe. sat there for more than 5 minutes and no one came to give us the menu. we stopped one of the waiters (an indian male...since when do they employ an indian there? saw a few tables of indians...to attract the indian crowd?) and told him to bring us the menu, he paced around the shop without getting us the menu. so we were pissed.

we hopped over to broadway cafe which was opposite. sat at the first table we found and in less than 5 minues, we left again. here, we could not see any waiter at all. there were customers seated at the tables but we din see any waiter. and it was here that the highlight of the night happen (for me at least).

i passed a comment that maybe we blended in with the crowd already there, so no one noticed us -the new faces. one of my friends took insult at the comment. hmmhh.....he said, "i dun blend in with these people. i am insulted to blend in with them." well, that comment basically was the highlight of my night. was it wrong with blending in with the crowd?? why feel insulted? aren't those sitting there human as well? don't they deserve respect like you do? don't they live in the town you call your hometown? hmhhh....shouldn't i feel insulted as well with his comment? after all it was i who said that we blended in. has this friend lose his footing on the ground??
this reminded me of the poem 'if' by rudyard kipling. having to go through the poem a few times every year makes it hard to forget the lines. these 2 lines will touch on my situation above: if you can walk with crowd and keep your virtues/ or walk with kings and keep the common touch. the lines basically say that we have to be able to mix with all sorts of ppl and still keep our humility. and it is this sort of ppl that we should admire and learn to be. not someone who can only blend in with the higher society and not with the other. this is not an over-reaction over a small thing. but it is just a trigger that sets me thinking. so no offense.
(ironically, he also had a cut out of the poem pasted on his notebook...he told me few years ago)

ok, back to the cafe hopping thingy. we then decided to go to a new kopitiam on the trunk road near upsi's hostel. we finally were served with menu and a waiter waiting there to take our orders. but, all was not smooth. haha....not to my order anyway. our drinks came promptly but the plate of nasi lemak did not come at all. we were slightly engrossed in the american idol broadcast on the big projector in front that we got carried away with time. by the time we called the waiter again to ask about the order, i think 15 mins had already passed under the bridge. i am sure they dun have to cook the rice there and then. well, apparently the waiter had forgotten to jot down the order. nasi lemak came few mins after summoning the second waiter.

this is the first time when all 'orders' went wrong. well, it is good 'catching up' on all the 'new' things in my friends' life.
