i have had the most wonderful 2 nights stay at seven terraces in penang. this is one place i do not want to check out once i have checked in.
i was so happy to be able to find 3 other people in my short break on penang island and to secure the steward suite in this boutique hotel. i wanted to stay in a great hotel and i got my wish here.
it is not easy to find the hotel but it is found on waze albeit bringing me to the back of the hotel instead of the front where i could park my car.
the hotel sent me a map but since i was not familiar with roads in penang, i couldn't find myself to the car park allocated for residents. yup, they call their hotel guests residents. i sure did feel at home.....walking in the hotel barefoot from upstairs to downstairs, it is encouraged. they don't even supply room slippers, you will have to request for them if you want.
this is the front facade of the hotel. the block is hidden behind penang chinese town hall and is at the back of st george's church. enter via the lane behind the church. the lane is actually right across the star newspaper office.
this is the lobby of the hotel and the table there is the receptionist table where they only have a laptop and printer at the corner. it is not like your usual hotel check-in counter at all. it was a brisk checking in. there was no asking of identification verification at all. i just mentioned my name and they came out with the key straight away. the fastest check-in i have ever encountered.
the general manager was the one who greeted me when i arrived, a south african. a very friendly chap. most of the staff working here are foreigners as well but that is not a problem as everyone speaks english.
another rest area in the lobby.
this is the pool area and where they serve afternoon tea as well to guests who are around during that time.
the lap pool. spent 30 minutes here on the second day. satisfied. it would be a waste not to utilise the pool and i had the pool all to myself.
the library area....where i get my morning paper from. they don't give newspaper at the room.
one corner near our breakfast area. the area gets lots of sunlight in the morning.
opium anyone? these are found in the lobby area.
the courtyard. on one side is the lobby and reception and pool area and breakfast area....and on the other side, they have the kebaya restaurant and antique....a shop selling antique themed items i think. didn't get to check it out. our suite is right there on the left....right at the end.
view from outside our suite.
this is the entrance to our suite.
the living room area.....aaahh......i was home. that lounge bed beneath the tv is really comfortable. one of us slept there for 2 nights. i guess we are more used to harder mattress, hence the lounge bed was the one that was the closest to what we have at home.
i stood on the lounge bed and took this photo to show the whole suite. there is a king bed. my travelling companions were at the round table taking their welcome tea. the opened doors led to the master bathroom. it was long! on the left of the room, go down 3 steps, and you will find 2 super single beds, another tv and bathroom. huge eh?
there are 3 air-conditioners and one fan in the room.
the cabinet which stores the safety box, refrigerator, dressing gowns, kettle and cups.
beautiful dressing table. they even have a phone dock where the phone can be plugged to the speakers and it becomes our radio.
this is the tea table corner.
the king bed which i slept on ....on the second day....all alone. hahah.....the king bed is not as soft as the super single which i slept on the first day. hence, i kicked the sleeper to the super single on the second night. kakaka. rolled as much as i wanted and i still could not reach the edge. i slept like a king that night.
the two super single beds.
the master bathroom.....it is really long and wide too. the width is almost 2metres.
see where the shower head is? it was like showering right under the rain. everyone wanted to make their shower this way now. the water from the tap here is all drinkable.
the tv in the single bed area.
our welcome tea was served in our room.
the bed with jasmine and rose petals on a saucer after we come back from our walk in the evening. the smell of jasmine filled the room and at night, my blanket smelt of the fragrant flower too. natural perfume. unfortunately, i was tossing and turning the whole night because i was totally swallowed by the soft mattress and blanket. i felt like in the midst of a marsmallow and the airconditioner was blowing right at my nose. bad.
there you have it, the suite where i stayed in for my 2 nights in penang. wonderful eh? i guess you must be wondering how much i paid for it now.
well, the steward suite can fit 4 persons and it is rm1000 per night. so when you divide it by four, each will pay rm250 each for one night. it was worth every penny we paid for. i can give this place a 10 out of 10.
my only pet peeve is.......the staff should try remembering the 'residents' names. then i would really feel at home. even the general manager did not address anyone by name while making his round greeting everybody during breakfast. there are not that many 'residents' anyway because of the limited suites...so it won't be hard right? there is a feeling of detachment when one is not addressed by name.
many of those who checked in are foreigners. i heard from the staff that a lot of singaporeans stayed with them. i think our group was the only malaysian during our stay. this place is really a gem and i can't think of any other place to stay in now when i go to penang. i think they are in the midst of updating photos in their website as we saw shooting in progress in rooms which were not occupied while we were there. it will be a waste not to showcase the beauty of the suites.
anyway, the website of the hotel is www.seventerraces.com
