chinese new year is a celebration to welcome the coming of spring and it is of course more meaningful when you celebrate it with your close family, relatives and friends. however, the trend nowadays to travel away from home whenever this festive season comes is quite the norm. oh, how i disapprove of this.
call me traditional but chinese new year without the family and home atmosphere is no cny. where is the fun if there are no sounds in the kitchen, of arguments on where to hang the red decorative items and cards, shouting from the kitchen to all your children's names to go to the nearest grocery shop to buy whatever ingredients which have just finished, etc?
people in china are crying and bereaving for their miss chances to spend this new year with their families in their hometowns because of the heavy snow and blizzards. poor them. they have worked hard the whole year and can't wait to see their families when this disaster falls. my heart goes out to them because i have experienced a chinese new year alone with family member around once in 2000 when i was in england. and it was LONELY. i was on the verge of crying when i called home to speak to everyone around the table (really EVERYONE ah!) when they had just finished their reunion dinner. sob sob! i still have that emotion in me whenever i think of that memorable phone call.
so are you celebrating with your family this year??
let me share this mv of a song recorded by more than 100 hk artists for the victims of the winter disaster.
