food for solace

just two non-working days....and i have been down with running nose for two days. i think my body is not used to the sudden rest and the immune system chose to crash at this time too.

luckily, the worst is over now (finger crossed). the nose is dry and there is no more frantic search for tissue to wipe the dripping goo. hahaha....
i am definitely not going to switch on the air-conditioner again. i switched it on on sunday night and on monday, i woke up with the runny nose. it must be the cause.

let's go to some photos i have here to upload.
waaa...no more roti bengali!!!
my idea of an ideal breakfast. a cup of coffee, roti bengali spread with butter and a good book. that was taken last week. the book is with someone else now, and the stock of roti bengali is finished. sob sob. can only get it from bidor. it is my favourite bread. i don't care what people say about white bread being unhealthy.
and i choose to have my loaf of roti with the crust still intact. some people choose to cut it all off but gosh, that is the best part!!! roti oh roti, how i miss you.

next up: souvenirs from taiwan....must be hello kitty lah. ok i have to clarify, i did not ask for them......nor did i say that my souvenir must be hello kitty of any kind ya. but it is definitely not difficult to buy for me lah ;)
i thought i was going to get pineapple cookie since it was from taiwan......but this one here is taro/yam. and to me, it was horrible!! i only took half a bite, and the rest, went to the bin. sorry.....taro is not my cup of tea. i gave some to others and mom finished the rest.
there is still another packet of hello kitty cookies not opened yet, this time, i will make sure i finish one whole cookie. i don't think this will be too hard to swallow, after all it is only butter cookie hahah....and it is from marks and spencer. i guess only available in taiwan. am waiting for cousin to come.....if she is coming this raya break. will wait till this saturday to open it.

next up: instant noodles.

being home and having two meals cooked for you is a great thing right? but sometimes when you have the same dishes at noon and you see the same vege on the table at night, you will lose your appetite. i do like some variety. so when mom tantalised me with this new curry instant noodles that she bought, it became dinner on monday even with my runny nose on full swing.
and i was really intrigued because this packet of instant noodle here, has been voted the 7th spiciest ramen at an instant noodle review website. click on the link and see it for yourself. it came up on the late night news, so i heard it. now, don't you want to try a packet? it is more expensive that your normal maggi ones as well. i heard mom bought 4 packets for rm7.40.

the name of the instant noodle is my kuali-penang white curry noodles. the curry really is different from others.
it comes with three packets of seasonings-curry paste, seasoning and non-dairy creamer. the non-dairy creamer should be coconut milk in powder form right? the curry paste smelt great!!!

i think i put too much water, hence it was not that spicy.....or my tolerance for spiciness is higher with practice?

personally, i still prefer korean's noodles and their type of spiciness. i am not really a fan of coconut milk, so it is not really my thing. but for fans of home-cooked curry, this should be your thing. mom loves it. it will definitely remind you of your mom's curry.

next! cakes!!!
mom attended a baby full-moon party, and she came back with these: two cupcakes, and 2 red eggs. i ate both the cupcakes. opps....guilty. i have a craving for cakes every day since the holiday started. don't know why. as i am typing this, i am imagining myself eating some sort of cake too. hmmmhh....rainbow cake? it is something i have not tried.

back to the two cupcakes. they ain't bad at all.....or is it because of my craving?  i did not eat the fondant of course. does anybody eat them? the orange butter cupcakes were really quite good.
aaah....and i have found the maker of the cupcakes....well....it was not hard at all....her sticker was there on the box haha......go to jenncupcakes.blogspot.com to see her creations. scroll down the page, you will see the box above too.

and because of my craving, i stopped by secret recipe on sunday after my brisk walk session at proton city, before my bout of runny nose started.

as usual, there were the usual cheese cakes which i have tried almost all (i am not going to try the durian one ok, never) and then, there was a red velvet cake. wooo hoo. i have no idea since when red velvet has become one of my favourite cakes. could be since i started my first bite at ben's klcc. i was hooked. love the intense red, love the cream cheese that goes with it, and love the moist texture.

and this piece from secret recipe, thank goodness, did not disappoint although i kept it in the refrigerator till the next morning and had it for breakfast instead of my usual bread and coffee.
i think this is the most expensive cake at secret recipe at the moment. one slice is rm10 and with tax, i paid rm10.60. it is more than rm100 for one whole cake! their yoghurt cheesecake goes for rm82 one cake.

gosh....the love for red velvet cake has kicked start an urge in me to try baking it myself. how am i going to make so many layers like the one above? and will my cream cheese layering and topping work?? can you look at the picture above? see the last layer near the bottom left corner of the picture. can you see the yellowish thing above the cream cheese? what is that? that tasted really good....something that tasted like passion fruit. i wonder if they added something else to make it more tangy.

sis told me to make the cake only and not the cream cheese. but all the red velvet i had eaten comes with cream cheese. oh wait a minute. now i remember where i had my first red velvet....and it is in the form of a cupcake!!! it was in portobello market in london!! check out the picture here. it was in my trip to london 2 years ago.

hmmmm.....red velvet in cupcake it is then. pray hard that i will finish all my work this week and i can do some leisurely stuff next week. making red velvet cake is definitely one of them. am thinking of a shopping trip too hahaha.......well, i have to go to kl to redeem my birthday gift from la mer too. wanna catch a movie too if possible.

discipline. finish all my work first. watch this space next week for more red velvet. gulp....i hope.
