tahn sai gai

went to ipoh on friday evening to buy some stuff in jusco then it was off to steamboat in ipoh old town somewhere near excelsior hotel. it is opposite the new tower regency hotel at a shop called good times restaurant. in chinese it is tahn sai gai...tahn=coal. they use coal instead of gas stove. the broth was better but this time around, the ingredients were not that fresh.
it is my second time. came 2 years ago and enjoyed it. eat all you can for rm21.80.
5 of us, all ladies...yeah, all big eaters. we had the herbal soup and tomyam.
although it was raining, the place was crowded. we were lucky to get a table, the customers just left.

they also had yam rice, about 10 flavours of ice-crean, cut fruits, fries, fried stuff like wantan, chicken, spring roll. had 2 pieces of fried chicken as soon as i got there. told you i love them.
the seafood this time around was miserable. prawns and crabs were small and those oysters and fishballs were not fresh. din take any of those noodles offered. fish was ok and the strips of meat too.
reached bidor at around 11p.m.
and this morning...the alarm on the mobile did not ring again. saturday seems to be the day off for the alarm. it always happens to me on saturdays. i was jerked up from my slumber + dream with loud knocks from my housemate. what a wake-up call. i should get an alarm clock ...just waiting to find a nice one. ok, so it is just a clock but a nice one can be a decorative piece and one you would like to see and use right??
