hamburg, 18.12.08

turn back the clock and go back to hamburg. it was not a very long trip, we reached there after driving 3 hours from berlin and left at about 7p.m. again parked our car outside the train station at the suburb and bought group ticket for the day. it is the cheapest way to explore cities in germany. more christmas market: hamburger weinachts markt

the city council. i guess city council buildings are the landmarks in most german cities. another markt was in the square in front of the hall. let me show u bad ems' next time. haha...just a little block.

hamburg is a port city hence it was quite cold that day because of the wind. the streets were very crowded with christmas shoppers and it was all so merry. the sign above says: no man is illegal. so i guess everyone is welcome when they land at the port. this sign faces the sea. we passed a few churches in a row on the way to the port, from denmark, finland and sweden. i guess they were built for the sailors who stopped at the port for their prayers.

my lunch to fill the stomach during the walk. curry bratwurst, fries with a glass of sprite. €5 ..very expensive but i could not go starving.

the buildings in hamburg.

hamburg railway station. quite big and busy. nicely decorated with christmas lights. we had our dinner opposite the railway station: hamburger.

the port area.

the river leading to a small lake then a bigger lake in the middle of the city.

the bigger lake. the buildings on the left are hotels.
what did we miss in hamburg? st pauli area. passed by when we were in the bus. it is the place where the beatles played before they became famous and the area is filled with bars and entertainment spots. i think performance art is quite vibrant in the city. they have the lion king and tarzan musical running when i was there. i also saw poster of swan lake acrobatic ballet and other posters of concerts. i was very tired already when the sky turned dark at 4.30p.m. so i was not in the mood to explore. and the cold wind hitting the face was not fun.
so thus my trip to hamburg ended after dinner. it sounded boring huh, no? well, nothing beats berlin, so the rest seem mediocre.
