hannover, 14.12.08-15.12.08

finally, i have the time to sit down and upload photos of the trip to north germany. yeelin is out partying somewhere in koblenz, hence i have her notebook.
the trip north was supposed to end in 4 days but we extended it to another day in berlin when we could not finish sight-seeing in that big city. and we still haven't finished now. another trip next time?

anyway, let us go to hannover first, our first stop to meet my german pen-friend, jasmin and aunt's friend, we spent our night in their apartment.

our journey started at 6.30a.m. (yawn) and we reached hannover after 4 hours drive. luckily we have the navigator installed, so it was right to the front door of aunt friend's house.

jasmin came at around 12, she worked one street away from where we were so she knew the place and then aunt, uncle, jasmin and i headed to the city on the electric tram just outside. we bought a group ticket which let us travelled 2 zones in the city. the group ticket allowed up to 5 persons. clockwise from top left: the tram, museum, christmas market, railway station.

after lunch (jasmin's treat) we walked to the new city hall (rathaus) situated in an old building (1913). very beautiful indeed. you can take a trip up to the dome but of course with a small fee.

birds standing on the frozen surface of the lake at the back of the rathaus.

a short walk from the rathaus, is another bigger man-made lake. it was dug by prisoner of wars according to jasmin. a football stadium is nearby and many sports enthusiasts go there for their exercise.

all bombed in world war 2.
hannover now.

the old town area.
what is left after being bombed. just the structure of a church.

our lunch on the second day. spanish. at the newly opened mall in hannover. shrimp salad, seafood platter and paella. yummy.

mr wong bought us our lunch, we stayed at his place. his 3 sons are really cute.

my 'old' penfriend, jasmin, we met 13 years ago when i came to germany. phew...glad that we can still keep in touch till today.

well, the trip to hannover ended at about 5p.m. the next day after lunch at the mall. on the second morning, we helped the family fixed their newly arrived sofa. uncle and aunt chatted with their friend to their hearts' content.
the drive to berlin took us about 3 hours. again the navigator brought us to the doorstep in zone b of berlin.
