it is the last day of 2012 and i think there need to be a closure to the year....and yes, to this blog too.
personally, i have completed the task i had in my head since yesterday and i guess i am ready to move into 2013 already.
but for this blog, i think there need to be 2 more posts before i can call it the end.
i am not done with melbourne yet and my heart is still there thinking of my little nephew who fell sick yesterday. poor boy. hope he is getting better now.
so the two posts that will end the year will start with this first one, on the food i had. it was my way of paying back to the hospitable treatment i had received when i had there, and for all the money i was able to save on meals. thank you very much.
all the photos on food are in no particular order just as we did not plan what we were going to have and only decided when we were hungry.
taiwanese dessert in the city. i had the hot tofu with soup(bottom). it was good. quite filling.
home-cooked meal by my brother-in-law. he is the chef in the house. i love his steamed calamari. yummy. he is very meticulous.....see the cucumber slices he had lay out for the fried egg. hmmmhh....
expensive but light dinner at a chinese restaurant in kew. soup and prawn crackers were courtesy of the restaurant. we had la-las, roast quail and steamed abalone, scallop and oyster platter.
breakfast. i like the counter decoration. PEACE.
dinner at st katherine's, a restaurant opened by one of the master chefs. it was fine greek dining and the services were impeccable, so was the food. highly recommended.
macarons! i can still feel it melt in my month and the crunch that came before that. gosh. i am weak in the knees when i think of them. from labelle miette, a french patisserie in melbourne. must have!!! i have tried those from laduree, paris, but i did not like it as they were too sweet. but these here, were perfect.
italian meal paid by a friend who has migrated to melbourne. the glass of beer was good.
i have become a fan of latte because of this place- three bags full, a gourmet coffee place. the breakfast sets are to die for too. they are really mouth-watering but i think it is the coffee that most ppl come here for. i also tried their dripped coffee but the one i chose was more like tea. i was an acquired taste i guess.
hot doughnut from queen victoria market. not bad, not bad. best eaten when it is still hot.
steamboat at home. too much food for everyone!
another house party. this time it was cousin's birthday. this was only half of the food we had. i had to time to take photos of others such as those from the grill and salads. you can see fruit platter, scones, sausage rolls, sandwiches and 3 pies there. there was also a cheese and cracker platter. and it was my first time trying blue cheese and gosh, it was really mouldy. hahahaha....definitely an acquired taste. i wonder if i would ever get used to it. well, till next time i try again.
coffee and cakes at melbourne central. i have forgotten the name of the place, but it is at the food court and the coffee was really good. my cup of iced coffee was superb and when paired with the chocolate tart, the combination was perfect for a choc lover like me.
last but not least, pies which have won numerous awards in australia- pies in the sky in orlinda on the way to dandenong mountain. i had aussie meat pie and it was scrumptious. the pastry for the pie was really good. the filling was succulent as well. worth the trip there.
ok, end of the penultimate 2012 post. have to take a shower now before i go to the next one.
all in all, melbourne is a food haven, you can just get whatever you want and whatever cuisine you crave for. there is still so much not savoured and i bet the next time i go, there will be more new things to try. till next time i am there then.
