post 3, fiji. nadi and denarau marina

let us get to know the little area in fiji that i was in.

the little town that i was able  to visit while i was there was called nadi. the name of the international airport there is also based on the name of this town.
the capital city of fiji is suva and it is on the other side of the island. to get to suva from nadi, the journey by car would take around 4 hours.

from the airport to nadi takes about 20 minutes. and from nadi town centre to denarau island where our hotel is takes about 10 minutes.

we took a public bus that plied denarau-nadi route and it only cost us F$1 each.
the above is the main stretch of the town. walk all the way down the road, after about few blocks of shops, you will reach a t-junction, where you will find an indian temple, touted to be the biggest in the south pacific region. i think the stretch of main road is only about 1km long.
does it remind you of some towns back in malaysia? it reminded all of us of tg malim maybe like 20 years backwards.

prouds, a duty free outlet which can be commonly found in australia as well.

no, we did not try the cane juice. i think it is just sugar-cane juice and should be similar to those that we have back in malaysia?? natural energy drink? i dunno about that.

public transport vehicles found while we were in town. a bus with no window panes. how cool was that?

we also made it a point to visit their local market.
produce sold here were like those found in malaysian markets. pineapples, brinjals, pumpkins, yams, chillis, cucumbers, etc. there was one thing which we did not have those, kava roots. that is the top right picture. the dried roots are ground into powder to make kava drink which is a traditional beverage of fijians.

nadi handicraft market.
mostly wooden and shell products.
this just reminded me of tg malim or ipoh.

the end of the main road of nadi town....the indian temple. we did not go in. i think the one in tm is more impressive ;)

the end on nadi. we just spent a few hours there and had lunch at chicken express.

next up, port denarau, a marina which caters to guests on denarau island and is only 15 minutes walk from our hotel.

yup, there is even a hard rock cafe here.

basically this is a place where you can shop and eat.

wyndham holiday resorts booth. this was where my sister and i were talked into attending their presentation at wyndham holidays resorts to get discounted rates for south sea island cruise.
wydham operates on timeshares ownership and they have presentations all the time to lure potential clients to invest in their programmes and be part owners of this company.
their offer of discounted vouchers was too good to be missed, hence my sister and i were booked for a session just to go on south sea cruise at a fraction of the price published.

bula bus, the bus that plies denarau island. you pay F$7 for a ticket, and you can travel on the bus the whole day....well, only around denarau island.

that is all for this post. next post....heading out of nadi for some adventures.
